Hokeun Choi (he/him)

Hokeun Choi is a PhD student in Kinesiology and a Flagship Fellow at the University of Maryland. Hokeun’s innovative research focuses on widening access to sports medicine at local, national, and international levels to provide athletes with opportunities to continue safely and competitively pursuing their passion for sport, even after injuries. His first line of research seeks to combat the exclusion of minoritized sports medicine practitioners in elite sport in the United States to address disparities in the healthcare of elite athletes. His second line of research aims to understand the development and professionalization of sports medicine in various countries to increase access to nonrestrictive healthcare for athletes around the world. As a lifelong learner, Hokeun is committed to utilizing his transdisciplinary and cross-national research to deliver evidence-based and pragmatic solutions that address urgent social, organizational, or institutional needs.
