Sasha Chavez (she/her)

Sasha Tolliver is a PhD student in the Department of Kinesiology with a focus in Physical Cultural Studies (PCS). Sasha found significant interest in the PCS program after completing her Master's Thesis on Community Wellness Spaces and Perception of Well-Being After Use in the underserved community of Homewood in Pittsburgh, PA where she was also the Community Engagement Fellow. She was presented with the Outstanding Student in Sports Medicine Award for instilling a commitment to the program in community involvement and widening the research arena seen in the school. During her time in Pittsburgh, Sasha also had the opportunity to intern under world renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. Volker Musahl. Her current research interests include health equity, chronic disease management, pediatrics, and the impact of social structures on the body. Sasha is excited to work with likeminded individuals in the world of Kinesiology, seeing how far the discipline actually spans, and solidifying her research focus.
